Professional Profile: Psychology Today

My education is in psychology, (bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree with concentration in Clinical Psychology). Specialized in Person-Centered Therapist (PCT), a humanistic, experiential and phenomenological approach, I strongly believe in each person’s natural tendency to grow and heal (Actualizing Tendency). My role is to facilitate a process where my clients have this tendency reactivated or strengthened, through a therapeutic relationship founded on empathy, respect and authenticity.

The person is seen as a whole, where body and mind are an organismic unit being affected by and responding to what comes to it. Either psychotherapy or counselling, are ways of improving this process, contributing to make it more fluid and thorough. The therapy itself is an interpersonal process, where sitting face-to-face, a frank and comfortable dialogue takes place, and it is of such a type that leads to the development of more awareness of feelings and emotions, as well as to the identification and processing of them.

Practical examples of positive results of this type of therapy is the person’s gradual development of a more genuinely self-directed existence, rather than frequently acting in response to external demands; a focus on here and now, rather than responding to present situations with the emotional “baggage” of past experiences, plus strengthened self-esteem leading to less need for acting defensively.

Some applications of my work are concerning anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, self-esteem, stress, emotional issues, mood disorders, impulse control disorders, ADHD, Addiction, Grief and Life transitions.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually more frequent in the first two or three months of therapy. The fee is $135.00 per session, with the possibility of packages for those in need or interested in attending more frequent sessions or long-term therapy. Sessions are preferably in-person, but also online sessions are available when needed.
